In a time when nearly everything is throwaway we want to return to the idea of heirlooms. Creating handmade artwork that can be enjoyed and passed down from one generation to the next says Barbara Appleby of Barbara Appleby Books.
She took her life style and the way generations before her has loved and lived and then thought about modern society. All of the things being lost and that way of life disappearing more with each passing year.
She needed a way to show future generations the beauty and heartfelt love of nature and the gentle life style. And she also needed the technology to get it to the people that would love it as much as she did.
She excels at her art and uses tools that are antique to continue her craft. One of her favorites is fountain pens.
She makes her own walnut ink in the dead of winter. The ink she makes she uses till the following winter and then she makes more using walnuts from the back of her yard that her mother had planted over thirty years ago.
Her illustrations with pen, ink and watercolor give life and grace to children's books, coloring books and newspaper articles alike. Come with Barbara and walk back in time when craftsmanship was king and a man's word was his bond and revel in the joy of a job well done.
Barbara Appleby was born in Indiana but moved with her family to Kentucky on the beautiful Lake Cumberland. Most of her books are children's and young adults. She lives with her husband and Yorkie Anna. When she isn't writing and illustrating, she loves walking, gardening, photography and painting. She enjoys nothing more than curling up with a good book.
